Trinamool Congress chief whip in West Bengal Assembly Sovandeb Chattopadhyay successfully underwent surgery for a gland on his neck at a city hospital today, hospital authorities said.
"Prof Dr Shantunu Banerjee successfully operated Mr Chattopadhyay today for a gland on his neck," a Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) official told PTI.
"Chattopadhyay is doing fine, but the doctor has restricted him from speaking and he will be released on Friday," he said.
State Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, TMC leader Ashok Deb visited Chattopadhyay in the evening, hospital sources said.
Chattopadhyay, 70, was admitted to the hospital yesterday for the surgery, the sources said.
