Two spotted deer were killed in the Motipur range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary here after being hit by a train, a senior forest official said.

"The incident took place yesterday near Chandanpur railway crossing due to the high speed of Gonda-Mailani passenger. We are registering an FIR against the driver and guard of the train," Divisional Forest officer Ashish Tiwari said.

He said a letter had been written to Railway authorities informing them that despite directions, the speed of trains passing from the forest rage was high.

The speed limit of 30 km/hour is fixed for the trains passing from the area.

The deer were later buried in the forest.
