Sri Lanka were struggling at 161 for six when early tea was taken due to rain on day one of the first Test against South Africa in Galle on Thursday.

Opener Dimuth Karunaratne was batting on 80 off 132 balls after the hosts lost four quick wickets against an inspired South African bowling attack in the second session of play.

Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada claimed three wickets and left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamshi took two after Sri Lanka elected to bat first at the start of the two-match series.
