The Tamil Nadu Assembly today referred to its Privileges Committee, a statement made by DMK Chief M Karunanidhi.
Speaker P Dhanapal said that Karunanidhi, representing Tiruvarur Assembly segment, had made the statement claiming that certain remarks in this context were made by Housing Minister R Vaithilingam on the floor of the House recently.
Vaithilingam had not made these remarks as claimed by Karunanidhi and therefore, there was 'prima facie' breach of privilege in this issue, Dhanapal said.
He referred the DMK President's remarks to the Privileges Committee under a relevant House rule.
Karunanidhi's statement was carried in DMK mouthpiece 'Murasoli' and another vernacular eveninger, the Speaker added.
