A station in-charge was attached to police lines here today after a judicial probe was initiated against him in connection with death of a railway peon in police custody recently.

MIG Police Station In-charge, Syed has been sent to police line (removed from field duties) after a probe has been initiated by a Judge in this regard, Superintendent of Police

O P Tripathi said.

The peon, identified as Pankaj Vaishnav (25) posted at Railway Court, was brought to the police station on December 19 on the charges of purchasing a stolen motorcycle, he said.

During interrogation, Vaishnav went to toilet but when he didn't return for quite some time, police got suspicious. A policeman peeped into the toilet from a window and found him hanging, he added.

He used the laces of his shoes to hang himself by tying one end to the ventilator, Tripathi said on the basis of statements given by the policemen at that time.

Vaishnav was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, the SP said.
