Street vendors stage protest

Street vendors here today staged a dharna before the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) office protesting the recent eviction of petty shops and street vendors in various parts of the city.

The protestors termed as "inhuman" the eviction by MCC without giving prior notice to the town vendors committee, formed in accordance with the bill introduced by the Centre, to safeguard the interests of street vendors.

President of street vendors association, Sunil Kumar Bajal said the MCC's action without providing alternate arrangements to vendors amounted to violation of human rights.
