Commuters had to face tough time today as buses and school vans went off the road due to country-wide strike called by Left parties and unions associated with it against the Centre's Road Transport Safety bill.
The transport department had to run additional buses in the city to deal with the situation.
The day-long strike was been called jointly by road transport organisations -- representing both public and private sector workers -- which are affiliated to central trade unions including All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and BMS.
Various Union leaders said that the introduction of the bill would demolish the whole transport infrastructure in the country.
