Student leader shot dead in Gorakhpur

The incident took place last night when some miscreants opened fire at Satyapal Singh, they said, adding that Singh died while being taken to a nearby hospital, SSP Ashutosh Kumar said.

The victim was an active student leader and a contractor in Nagar Nigam here.

Further probes into the case are on, Kumar said.

Meanwhile, university students blocked the Gorakhpur-Lucknow-Varanasi highway this afternoon to protest against the killing of their leader.

Additional forces have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident, the SSP said.
