Sugar prices were down by 0.21 per cent to Rs 3,809 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators reduced their positions amid subdued demand in the spot market against ample stocks position.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in far-month October fell by Rs 8, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 3,809 per quintal, with an open interest of 19,840 lots.
Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in July shed Rs 4, or 0.11 per cent, to Rs 3,594 per quintal in 28,040 lots.
Analysts attributed weakness in sweetener prices at futures trade to a lower demand from bulk consumers in the spot market against adequate stocks position.
