Sugar spurts on strong demand, thin supply

Sugar prices firmed up at the wholesale market in the national capital today following summer season demand from bulk consumers amidst slowdown in supplies from mills.

Marketmen said strong demand from bulk consumers such as icre-cream makers and soft-drink makers following rising mercury mainly influenced sweetener prices.

Sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices rose notably to Rs 2,600-2,790 and Rs 2,590-2,780 per quintal.

In the millgate section, Mawana, Kinnoni and Dorala also traded higher at Rs 2,675, Rs 2,790 and Rs 2,675 per quintal.

Sugar prices of government and co-operative mills too rose in line with overall trends. Ramala, Bulandshar, Morna and Chandpur traded higher at Rs 2,610, Rs 2,650, Rs 2,620 and Rs 2,640 per quintal.

Sugar retail markets - Rs 30.00-34.00 per kg.

Sugar ready: M-30 Rs 2,800-2,940 S-30 Rs 2,790-2,930.

Mill delivery: M-30 Rs 2,600-2,790 S-30 Rs 2,590-2,780.

Sugar millgate (including duty): Mawana Rs 2,675, Kinnoni Rs 2,790, Asmoli Rs 2,720, Dorala Rs 2,675, Budhana Rs 2,680, Thanabhavan Rs 2,670, Dhanora Rs 2,660, Simbholi Rs 2,770, Modi Nagar Rs 2,645, Khatuli Rs 2,770, Dhampur 2,650, Ramala Rs 2,610, Bulandshahr Rs 2,650, Anupshar Rs 2,600, Baghpat Rs 2,620, Morna Rs 2,620, Sakoti Rs 2,640, Chandpur Rs 2,640, Nazibabad Rs 2,610.
