Farmers would organise a picketing programme throughoutTamil Nadu onJan 7 demanding increase in the procurement price of sugarcane to Rs.4,000 per tonne.
According to a release from Sugarcane Growers Association state President Palanisamy, the farmers also demanded a share in the profit earned by the sugar mills as per the regulation in the SugarcaneControl Act.
Though the cooperative mills were giving a share of their profit to the sugarcane growers, they had not settled the entire amount.
