Expressing concern over the recent rise of incidents of train and road robberies in Bihar, former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi today asked senior JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar to explain as to why law and order situation in the state had deteriorated.
"Armed robbers looted passengers of their belongings and valuables worth lakhs of rupees on Chapra-Tata Express in Jamui district two days ago among half a dozen train robberies taking place in Bihar over the past ten days," the BJP leader said in a statement.
The people have become so panic stricken that they feared the worst during travelling by train, Modi said.
The incidents of road robberies too have escalated with armed robbers looting trucks on highways, he said.
Claiming that the former chief minister was indirectly running the state government since parting ways with the BJP 18 months ago, Modi asked his erstwhile boss to explain the reason behind spate in train and road robberies and make a public statement.
"The former chief minister must account for the state government's failure to maintain peaceful law and order particularly in the backdrop of his successor Jitan Ram Manjhi's assertion that he was merely batting under the watchful eyes of the captain - Nitish Kumar," Modi said.
The deterioration in law and order and order situation in recent times was alarming in the context that travelling in Bihar was so comfortable and convenient even in night when the NDA was in power, he said.
