State-run Syndicate Bank plans to open more branches abroad along with strengthening its presence in the country, CMD Sudhir Kumar Jain today said.

The bank would be approaching RBI soon for permission to open branches in South Africa, Thailand, Abu Dhabi, China and Hong Kong, Jain told reporters at a press meet here today.

With more than half of its branches in five southern states, the bank plans to strengthen its presence in all parts of the country by opening more branches and setting up ATMs, he said.

The staff strength of the bank would be enhanced significantly by creating 2,700 clerical and 2,300 officers' posts this year, he added.
