A teacher of a
government-run High School at Purushottampur in Odisha's Ganjam district was arrested today for allegedly beating up a Class IX student, who sustained fracture in his hand.
The boy is undergoing treatment at the nearby hospital, the police said.

Bhaskara Patra, the accused teacher, was arrested on the basis on FIR lodged by Debaraj Behera, father of the student yesterday, inspector-in-charge of Purushottampur police station B K Sahu.
District education officer (DEO) Ganjam Sanatan Panda put him under suspension for inflicting corporal punishment, which was banned in the school premises in the state. DEO also asked the head master of the school to meet the treatment expenditure of the victim from the school development fund.
The incident occurred last Saturday during the drill period. The teacher allegedly beat up the student for alleged indiscipline. The boy fell down and fractured his hand, police said.
