Tech institutes asked to construct hostels for SC/ST students

Punjab government has asked all government and aided technical institutes to construct hostels for SC and ST students in their respective institutes.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has come out with a scheme for government and aided institutes approved by AICTE with more than 150 SC and ST students on its roll, to provide funding of Rs 2 crore for construction of hostels, a government spokesman said.

The step has been taken to enhance enrolment of SC and ST students as well as to improve quality of education and research capabilities, he said.

All eligible institutes have been directed to avail the scheme for immediate implementation.
