Techie held for illegally routing of international phone calls

Police have arrested an IT professional for illegally routing international telephone calls and seized relevant electronic equipment from him.

Acting on credible information, police apprehended G Nagaraju from Manikonda area and also recovered over 70 SIMs of different cellphone companies from him, an official said.

Commissioner's Task Force, (South Zone) team nabbed Nagaraju and seized various electronic accessories used for illegal bypassing of international calls from legitimate gateways, Task Force Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police N Koti Reddy said.

Nagaraju, a native of Tenali in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, had an expertise in IT customer care related work.

He had been out of regular job since the last one-and- half years and during this period he started this illegal activity, causing revenue loss to Department of Telecommunications, he said.
 

The accused set up a network unit of call diversion at his house in Manikonda and used to charge 34 paisa per minute rate to his clients. Legitimate companies charge 45 paisa for the same facility, the police officer added.
