Teenager dies during Teachers' Day celebration in school

A teenager was killed today after a part of boundary wall collapsed on him during Teachers' Day celebrations at a village in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said.

The Class 6 student, Balaji Gouda (13), was near the boundary wall of Upgraded High School under Khallikote block when a function to mark the Teachers' Day was underway, they said.

School Head Master Kumuda Chandra Behera said the mishap took place when a sand-laden tractor hit the boundary wall, while entering into the school premises.

The vehicle entered the compound of the school through a different route without intimating the school authorities, he alleged.
 

The boy was immediately rushed to the Khallikote hospital where doctors declared him dead, police said.

A case of unnatural death has been registered and an investigation initiated into the matter, they said.
