The Telangana government would hold a meeting with the managements of corporate schools and colleges and other educational institutions tomorrow to discuss reported incidents of suicide by students.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, who looks after the education department, held a meeting with officials today and directed them to convene the meeting, a state government release said.

The meeting would be attended by the managements of corporate schools and colleges, 'international schools' and also parents' associations.

The government's response came following reports of suicides by the students coming from the institutions.

Expressing anguish over the students committing suicides due to academic pressure, Srihari favoured issuing guidelines to the educational institutions to check the incidents of suicides and to ensure that a positive academic environment prevails in the educational institutions, the release said.

Srihari said the recognition of institutions who do not follow the government's guidelines should be cancelled.

He suggested that the corporate educational institutions and 'international schools' should have counselling centres to help the students.

He appealed to the parents to see that students are not under pressure.

The deputy chief minister urged the students not to take the extreme step of committing suicide.
