: A tender clerk in the town municipality was arrested today by vigilance department officials for demanding and accepting Rs 3,000 bribe from a fruit merchant for a favour, police said.
They said the man had demanded Rs 4,000 from the merchant who wanted to extend his shop. The merchant agreed to pay Rs 3,000 today and then filed a complaint.
Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption laid a trap and nabbed the clerk while he was receiving the amount, police said.
The man was produced before the judicial magistrate here and remanded to judicial custody.
