"Bridget Jones's Baby", the third instalment of the 2001 "Bridget Jones's Diary" franchise, is set to hit theatres on September 16, 2016.

It will see Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth reprising their roles from the second instalment, "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason", which released in November 2004.

Sharon Maguire, who helmed the original "Bridget Jones's Diary", will direct the new film based on creator Helen Fielding's heroine, said The Hollywood Reporter.

The story centres on the next chapter of Bridget Jones's life, when she finds herself unexpectedly expecting a baby.

Patrick Dempsey joins the cast for the third part, and Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films are producing alongside Debra Hayward.

Universal is distributing in North America and select international territories.

Currently, the only other film dated for September 16 is thriller drama "When the Bough Breaks".
