According to highly placed sources, Thomas discussed with the Prime Minister the issue of delay in notifying export of additional one million tonnes of sugar.
Earlier, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had also raised the issue in a letter to the Prime Minister.
The meeting comes ahead of the Prime Minister's scheduled meeting on April 30 to discuss issues raised by Pawar on the government's farm export policy, particularly sugar, cotton and milk.
The government has permitted export of 3 million tonnes of sugar in 2011-12 marketing year (October-September). Of which, the Food Ministry is yet to notify the EGoM's decision of March 26 to allow additional one million tonnes of export.
Sources said Thomas informed Singh about the modalities that Food Ministry has worked out for allocating export quota and the same will be placed before the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM).
