Three unidentified persons have been booked for dacoity after a jeweller complained that they had attempted to steal a bag from him and had also fired at him, police said today.

The incident happened on June 13 at around 10pm when the jeweller, who owns a shop in Diva in Thane district, was returning home, told police.

"His complaint stated that one man tried to snatch his bag, containing jewellery weighing about 35 grams, and two others came and hit him on his head with a revolver and also fired a shot to scare him," an official said.

A case under section 398 (dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code as well as relevant sections of the Arms Act was registered with Mumbra police, the official added.

No arrests had been made so far and further investigations were underway, he said.
