Tight security in Mumbai for I-Day

Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on Monday, city police have started stepping up security in Mumbai.

"As the Independence Day is being celebrated next week, we have started taking all possible measures to avoid any untoward incident," Mumbai police spokesperson Ashok Dudhe said.

Nearly 40,000-strong city police force will be on bandobast duty, he said, adding there will be 'nakabandi' at various locations across the city.

"We have called for some extra security forces from outside to ensure peace on and before the Independence Day. Personnel of Rapid Action Force (RPF) will be roped in and there will be policemen stationed across Mumbai in plain clothes," Dudhe said.
 

When asked if police have received any specific security alert, the official said, "There has been no alert as such. But we are stepping up security as part of routine process.
