TN celebrates Tamil new year

Tamil New Year was celebrated with usual gaiety and fervour across the state today, with people thronging places of religious worship to usher in the 'Manmatha Aandu' (Manmatha Year).

Special prayers were held in temples as people queued up from early morning to pray for an auspicious and prosperous year.

Prayers and special poojas were held at the Vadapalani Murugan temple here, Samayapuram Mariamman shrine at Tiruchirappalli besides temples at Ariyalur, Perambalur and Karur, among others.

Governor K Rosaiah and AIADMK General Secretary Jayalalithaa extended new year greetings to the people.
