A 40-year-old tribal was trampled to death by an elephant in Bokapuram, about 30 from here, police said today.
Balan and his wife had gone to Thottalingi area to collect firewood last night, when an elephant chased them.
Balan's wife managed to escape and returned home safely around 9 PM yesterday, they said.
The villagers noticed Balan's body this morning with head and abdomen injuries, police said.
