Tribal woman convicted in husband murder case

A local court today sentenced a housewife to life imprisonment after convicting her in the murder of her husband following a domestic dispute.

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Phulbani, Rajendra Kumar Tosh today sentenced Sanju Kanhar, a tribal housewife, to life on the charges of killing her husband, said S.P.Tripathy, additional Public Prosecutor.

According to the prosecution, the accused had married Sadananda Kanhar at Budiguda village 11 years ago and they had a 10-year-old daughter.

On May 25, 2013 night the couple had an altercation following which the wife went to her father's house at Sumerubandha village, but she returned to house at night and allegedly killed her husband with an axe while he was sleeping.
