The Bhamragad taluka administration has denied permission to tribals to celebrate the 'International Day for Indigenous People' in Bejur village on August 9, according to official sources.

The United Nations Organisation (UNO) has declared August 9 as 'International Day for Indigenous People' and events are organised all over the world on that day by native indigenous communities.

However, the Bhamragad tehsildar has issued a letter dated August 6, informing that permission to use a loudspeaker has been denied to Khushal Madavi, who is the organiser of the event, because the district collector has promulgated Section 37 (1) (3) in the district from August 5 to August 20.

The Tehsildar also cited a letter from the Bhamragad police station, which says that permission to use loudspeakers must not be granted for the tribal event.

The development comes after tribal residents of 128 villages in the district applied to the Bhamragad Tehsildar on August 4, for permission to hold the event.

The tribals had decided to celebrate the event on August 8 and August 9.
