Turkey probes claims security forces dragged corpse

Turkey's Interior Ministry says it has launched an investigation into possible human rights abuse after an image posted on social media showed a corpse tied to the back of a security vehicle being dragged along a street in southeast Turkey, where security forces are battling Kurdish militants.

The photograph was posted on Twitter today and shared by Selahattin Demirtas, leader of Turkey's pro-Kurdish political party.

The ministry statement said claims of abuse would be investigated fully. It said Turkey was determined to press ahead with its fight against Kurdish rebels "within the principles of a state ruled by laws."

Violence between the autonomy-seeking rebels of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, and the Turkish security forces reignited this summer, shattering a fragile peace process with the Kurds.
