Turmeric futures surge 2.23 pc on spot demand

Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

Turmeric prices spurted 2.23 per cent to Rs 6,886 per in futures trade today as participants built up fresh positions due to uptick in domestic as well export demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in April contract was trading higher by Rs 150, or 2.23 per cent, to Rs 6,886 per with an open interest of 10,090 lots.

Similarly, the spice for May month delivery increased by Rs 146, or 2.15 per cent, to Rs 6,940 per in 5,135 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by traders following upsurge in domestic as well as export demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions mainly pushed up turmeric prices in futures trade.
