Twitter buzzes with 2.9 mn tweets on India-Pak World Cup clash

The face-off between India and Pakistan at the Cricket World Cup this month saw 2.9 million tweets being posted, making it the most tweeted about One Day International (ODI) match during the championship.

The finals between England and New Zealand was the second most-tweeted match during the World Cup, followed by the clash of India and the Kiwis in the first semi-final, data from Twitter Tuesday showed.

The #CWC19 conversation generated 31 million tweets from May 20 to July 15, it added. Comparing the hashtag #CWC19 to the last Cricket World Cup hashtag #CWC15, there was more than a 100 per cent growth in tweet volume containing the official hashtag.

 

"With 2.9 million Tweets, the most-Tweeted about match was #INDvPAK, making it the biggest One Day International (ODI) match ever on Twitter! The second most-Tweeted was the final between #ENGvNZ followed by the first semi-final #INDvNZ," Twitter said.

Interestingly, India was the most tweeted about team in #CWC19, with wicket-keeper and former captain MS Dhoni being the most tweeted about player.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli emerged as the most tweeted about captain, followed by Sarfaraz Ahmed (Pakistan), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Eoin Morgan (England) and Aaron Finch (Australia).

Also, Kohli's tweet thanking fans, especially 87-year-old fan Charulata Patel became the most re-tweeted tweet of #CWC19. It received well over 3.76 lakh likes and more than 43,000 re-tweets.
