Two suspected auto-lifters were arrested for allegedly stealing two-wheelers from different parts of the city, police said Wednesday.
The accused were identified as Vipin (24), resident of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, and Sonu Sharma (22), resident of Bihar's Madhepura district.
A team was constituted to investigate the cases and it took all the possible angles, including time, place and modus-operandi, into consideration in the recent auto-lifting cases.
While the team was analysing the CCTV footages of the areas where the incidents took place, Vipin was identified and then arrested, said Monika Bhardwaj, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
During interrogation, Vipin disclosed that he along with Sonu has been committing auto thefts for the last one year in various parts of Delhi. Based on Vipin's revelations, Sonu was arrested from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Both the accused revealed that they used to target scooters parked in an isolated place, Bhardwaj said.
After committing thefts, they used to park the stolen vehicles in different locations. Before they could sell off theses vehicles, police nabbed them and recovered the stolen scooters. Five stolen scooters were recovered from their possession, police said.
