Two persons were today killed and more than 40 others injured when a speeding truck overturned on a national highway in Begusarai district, police said.
The mishap took place on NH-28 this morning under Bachhwara police station area and the truck was carrying a number of daily wage earners from Begusarai to Mahnar in the neighbouring district of Vaishali for work, in-charge of the police station Sumit Kumar said.
He said the speeding truck tried to overtake another vehicle while trying to avoid hitting two cycle-borne school boys and overturned.
Among the injured labourers, Dheeraj Kumar Sah succumbed to injuries while being taken to a hospital while Sonu Kumar died undergoing treatment. Nearly 40 other labourers, all of them residents of Begusarai district, are undergoing treatment for injuries received in the mishap, Kumar said.
The two school boys, Pranav and Raja, too slipped, fell from the cycle and received minor injuries during the mishap, he added.
The truck has been seized, while the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their family members after post mortem, he said.
