: An eight-year-old girl drowned in a tank at nearby Mukuntharayar chattiram today while taking a bath, police said.
The girl had gone to the spot along with her family, but strayed into the deep end of the tank and drowned. The others realised she was missing when they were returning home after the bath and rushed back to find her dead.
In another incident, a six-year-old boy from Karnataka died after he had a bout of fits while playing near the sea at nearby mandapam children's beach today.
His parents, including his father, were taking a bath in the sea to get some relief from the scorching sun when the boy drowned in the shallow waters, they said.
