Two women labourers were crushed to death by a speeding truck in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh this morning, police said.

Following the mishap, in which three other women labourers were injured, angry villagers blocked traffic on the busy Indore-Ujjain state highway for about five hours.

Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) of Sanwer area B L Verma told PTI that a speeding truck rammed into a group of women labourers walking along the highway near Badodiya Khan village and later overturned.

These women labourers were going to their workplace when the mishap occurred, he said.

Two of them died and three others were injured, Verma said.

The deceased were in the age group of 25-45 years, he said, adding the injured were admitted in a nearby hospital.

The truck driver fled the spot after the mishap, said Verma.

Angry over the mishap, around 200 villagers staged a road blockade, demanding a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The blockade disrupted traffic on the highway.

The villagers lifed the blockade after top police and administration officers reached the spot and assured to look into their demand.
