The proscribed ULFA that had called for a boycott of the 33rd National Games in Assam in 2007, today pledged its support to the 12th South Asian Games commencing in the state and Meghalaya from February 5.

"It is heartening to appreciate that our much loved Guwahati and Shillong have been chosen to host the games this time," Dr Abhizeet Asom, chairman of anti-talk faction ULFA (Independent) said in a statement.

"I, on behalf of my organisation, heartily welcome the South Asian nations to this sporting event with open arms," Asom said.

He pledged support to all the sporting bodies involved in these games to make SAG a joyful and very successful event.

The ULFA had opposed holding of the National Games in 2007 claiming that it reflected the colonial attitude of New Delhi.
