The body of a 48-year-old undertrial was found hanging in the bathroom of Jalpaiguri government hospital this morning.
Jalpaiguri correctional home acting in-charge Rajiv Ranjan said Narottam Gayen had been admitted to the government hospital on January 8 on the recommendation of the jail hospital after he complained of chest pain.
The man was also suffering from high blood pressure.
Gayen had been lodged in Jalpaiguri correctional home since September 27 last year in connection with a case relating to cruelty to a woman (Section 498A of IPC) and kidnapping (Section 365 of IPC), Ranjan said.
Government Hospital Superintendent Partha Dey, who is away in Kolkata, when contacted said the man had committed suicide.
