UNICEF praises Bihar's performance in polio eradication

Country head of UNICEF India Louise George Arsenault today met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and praised the state's performance in the field of polio eradication.

"Bihar is becoming polio free which is appreciable. The vaccination rate in Bihar is more than national average which is praiseworthy," Arsenault was quoted as saying by an official release here.

The UNICEF India country head also pointed to improvement in the field of education and referred to slide in dropout rate from 12.5 per cent to 2 per cent now, the release added.

Kumar told Arsenault about human resource development mission in Bihar.

He discussed in detail progress made by the state in the field of human resources development, education and health.
 

Kumar informed him that a roadmap was being readied under human resources development mission with special focus on health, education, sanitation and training.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister said the state government's endeavour was to bring Bihar among top 3-4 states in the field of vaccination.

Yamin Majumdar, Chief of field office UNICEF Bihar, was present in the meeting.
