Haryana Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar today held consultations with US Embassy Agriculture Minister Counsellor, Scott Sindelar, on possible areas of collaboration in agriculture and horticulture.
Dhankar is understood to have pitched the case of Haryana as one of the leading states in agriculture to the US official.
After Punjab, Haryana is the largest contributor to India's central pool of foodgrains, an official release quoting Dhankar said.
The main focus of the state government will be on horticulture so that farmers stay financially independent, the minister said.
The state government intends to open a Centre of Excellence for Horticulture in every district of the state.
