The United Nations today urged Washington to immediately halt its controversial practice of separating asylum-seeking Central American immigrant children from their parents at the southern border.
"The US should immediately halt this practice," Ravina Shamdasani, a spokeswoman for the UN rights office told reporters, warning that the separation of families and the effective detention of children was "a serious violation of the rights of the child.
