The US today paid tributes to the 13 people who died in an American military helicopter crash during an earthquake relief mission in Nepal in May.
The US Embassy Kathmandu held a memorial service to pay tribute to the US Marines, Nepal Army personnel, and the civilians who died when the American UH-1 "Huey" helicopter crashed on May 12 in Nepal's northeastern mountains.
Six US Marines, two Nepal Army soldiers and five civillians were killed during the mission to transport local villagers to a hospital after the devastating earthquake in Nepal that killed thousands.

The memorial plaque for the victims was placed at the premises of the Phohra Durbar American Compound in Kathmandu, which served as the home base for the Marines in Nepal, a US Embassy statement said.
"This tragedy will forever serve as a reminder that our nations have been working together for almost 70 years. We came together in Nepal's hour of need, and will continue to stand with one another as this nation recovers and rebuilds," Charge d'Affaires of US Embassy John L Carwile said.
"This memorial plaque will always remind us that together, our two countries can accomplish great things.
