Synchronous beating of hand drums by around 10,000 people threw open the four-day Vadfest 2015, a cultural and art festival organised in the city by Gujarat government.
Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel and state Tourism Minister Saurabh Patel also played the hand drums on stage at the event's inauguration.
As many as 10,000 drums, ordered from Uttar Pradesh, were distributed among people, including school children, for the event. The rhythm of drum was directed from the stage by professional drummers, a statement said.

Guinness book of world records team was also present to recognise the event for world record for maximum number of people playing drums at one time at one place, it said.
Over 50 events on music, dance, drama, culture and food, among others, have been organised across 15 venues as part of Vadfest.
