Delhi golfer Vani Kapoor displayed great patience and composure in difficult conditions to take the lead on the opening day of the 11th leg of Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) here today.

Trailing Vani by one stroke are Amandeep Drall and amateur Aditi Ashok on tied second position. The INR 700,000 event will culminate on 17th July.

Hero Order of Merit leader Vani started well, carding one birdie on the 6th hole, while dropping a shot on the last hole of the front nine. She started the back nine with a bogie, but recovered soon with a birdie on the 14th hole. However, a bogey on the 16th hole marred her scoreline and she had to be content with a score of 1 over 73.

Aditi showed intent from the start and carded a birdie on the 2nd hole. The amateur from Bengaluru could not build on the good start and dropped shots on the 4th, 9th and 11th holes to end the day with a score of 2 over 74.

Panchkula's Amandeep Drall had an indifferent front nine with a lone birdie on the 3rd hole while dropping a shot on the 1st hole along with two double bogies on the 6th and 9th holes.

She started with much more aggression in the latter half carding four birdies on the 10th, 15th, 16th and 18th holes, while dropping two shots on the 11th and 12th holes. Her total of five birdies was the most by any golfer on the day.

Delhi's Mehar Atwal carded two birdies on the 3rd and 6th holes, dropping shot on the 1st, 5th, 7th and 9th holes. She played a birdie-less back nine with a bogie on the 13th to end the day placed fourth with a score of 3 over 75.

Delhi's Ankita Tiwana, Kapurthala's Gursimar Badwal and Kolkata's Neha Tripathi are tied 5th at four-over 76. Hero Motocorp sponsored Sharmila Nicollet, Kolkata's Smriti Mehra, amateurs Trisha Sunil and Diksha Dagar ended the day on tied 8th position with identical scores of five-over 77.
