An alleged vehicle-lifter was shot dead in interior Thoubal district of Manipur this evening, police said.
The unidentified vehicle-lifter stopped a man at Yairipok area at gunpoint and drove it away. The owner immediately informed locals who contacted the Yairipok Police Station, they said.
The accused was found hiding in a nearby house, police said, adding, that he started firing when they approached the house and in the ensuing encounter was killed.
The body would be brought the Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital' morgue here for post mortem.
