Delhi Waqf Board has formed a four-member vigilance committee which will be empowered to pursue complaints of corruption and irregularities against Board officials and members, including its chairman.
"The Waqf Board has formed a 4 member vigilance committee which will be empowered even to forward complaints against me, through the CEO of the Board, to Delhi government for action," chairman of the Board Amantullah Khan said today while launching its official website.
The new website is an attempt to bring transparency in the working of the Waqf Board, Khan said.
During a recent meeting, the Board members took several decisions, including running five ambulances in minority community dominated areas, appointment of contract teachers to promote Urdu, opening Delhi Waqf schools and a new development centre for the community.
Details of all the 1,977 properties, including highly priced land, will be put on the Board's website. The details of encroachment and names of the encroachers will also be displayed, he said.
"70 per cent of Waqf properties are under our possession while on 30 per cent, there are encroachments. We will take strong action to get back those properties," he said.
Khan claimed that the income of Delhi Waqf Board which was around Rs 7 lakh per month, has now increased to 50 lakh due to strict realisation of dues and rent from occupants of properties.
To build schools on Waqf land, Khan said he is seeking permission of Lt Governor Najeeb Jung for change of land use.
