WB govt plans welfare board for dwarfs

The West Bengal government is planning to start a welfare board for dwarfs.

State secretariat sources said the new board for the welfare of dwarfs was being planned and the project would be titled 'Little Star.'

Sources said under the scheme, which was being contemplated by the state government, the dwarf community would be able to get employment, health care facilities, education and even a pension.

Recently, the state government had established a board for the welfare of transgenders, which would provide pension to the third sex.

Based on the life of a dwarf, Bengali film 'Chotoder Chobi' had recently brought the plight of the community to the fore.
 

Directed by Kaushik Ganguly, the film had also won the National Award.
