A weaver died today after allegedly consuming poison at Jamalpur in Burdwan district with the family attributing the tragedy to his inability to fund his son's higher education.
A police officer said Basudeb Das (53) succumbed at the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital today after allegedly consuming poison at his residence on January 15.
Das' wife Mita said the father became depressed after her son, who had scored high marks in Secondary Examinations, informed he could not pursue his chosen stream without a particular amount as fee.

However, the father failed to mobilise the amount due to financial problem, the woman said.
After some hours, Das was seen groaning inside the room where he was alone and a half-empty bottle of pesticide found on his side, the officer said adding he was rushed to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital on January 15.
He expired today.
