The annual jamboree of rich and powerful from across the world ended today in this snow-capped resort town with a musical performance by Afghan's first women Orchestra 'Zohra'.
Spread over five days and nearly 400 sessions, the 47th Annual Meeting of the WEF saw around 2,500 leaders from business, politics, academia, civil society and art engaging in intense discussions. The pow-wow also saw special addresses by Chinese President Xi Jinping and British Prime Minister Theresa May.
Award winning Pakistani documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy became the first cultural leader to become a co- chair of the meeting, where attendees also included Karan Johar and Swami Agnivesh from India.
The orchestra from Kabul joined forces with members of Geneva's youth Orchestre du College for a powerful affirmation of friendship and trust across cultures.
Zohra is Afghanistan's first female conductors and comprises the first women to play music in their country in 30 years.
The concert was held in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo.
Gathering under the theme 'responsive and responsible leadership', participants discussed a slew of issues including the impact of automation and artificial intelligence on jobs and concerns about the future of globalisation.
The annual meet also had the entertainment quotient as celebrity singer Shakira dished out two lines of a Latin ditty.
"Today's babies will drive tomorrow's business. Their capacity to contribute will shape tomorrow's societies, will solve tomorrow's problems," said the Colombian star, who is also a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF and was also awarded here for her humanitarian work.
The inaugural had musical concert by violinist Anne- Sophie Mutter.
