Despite a late start, wheat procurement in Haryana has reached 61,30,692 tonnes in the current Rabi season which is higher by 2,04,541 tonnes as compared to the procurement made up to the same day last year.
During the last season, 59,26,151 tonnes of wheat was purchased up to May 4.
Out of the total arrival of 61,30,867 tonnes this year, 61,30,692 tonnes of crop has been procured by government procuring agencies on Minimum Support Price and remaining 175 tonnes was mopped up by traders, a Food and Supplies Department spokesman said.

He said that payment of crop amounting to Rs 7,810.49 crore up to May 2 had already been released by the department and other procurement agencies.
Giving details of the procurement, he said that over 18.07 lakh tonnes of wheat had been procured by the Food and Supplies Department, over 26.65 lakh tonnes by HAFED, over 6.44 lakh tonnes by Haryana Agro, more than 10.07 lakh tonnes by Haryana Warehousing Corporation and 5,800 tonnes wheat was purchased by Confed.
He said that out of the total crop purchased this year, over 50.08 lakh tonnes of wheat has already been lifted out of which over 30.53 lakh tonnes had been shifted to godowns and warehouses and more than 19.55 lakh tonnes have been shifted to Food Corporation of India godowns or other states by way of railways.
Thus, safety of 81.69 per cent stock of total purchase had been ensured.
