Woman strangulated by husband, in-laws in J&K

A woman was allegedly strangled to death by her husband and in-laws over a family dispute in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, police said today.

Zareena Begum's body was found in a nearby stream on May 10. A case was registered and followed up by a probe, police said.

The investigation led to the arrest of the woman's husband, Showkat Ahmad Chowhan, a resident of Ishu Gadole village of Kokernag area of the district, a police spokesman said.

During questioning, Chowhan revealed that he and his wife were involved in a family dispute. He along with his father Mohammad Qasim Chowhan, brother Mohammad Ashraf Chowhan and brother-in-law Bashir Ahmad Char strangled Zareena to death by her scarf.
 

Chowhan confessed that to avoid detection they threw her body in the stream, the spokesman said.

Police have arrested all the accused in the case.
