Workers strike for few hours in botanical garden, horti farms

About 340 workers in horticulture farms and Government Botanical Gardens in Nilgiris district today struck work, protesting against the delay in disbursing last month's salary.

The workers, including 200 women, squatted in front of the offices of 16 horticulture farms at various places and also the Botanical garden here, without attending to the works like cleaning and weeding, police said.

According to some workers, the department was delaying salary for the last few months. The workers said thery were upset for delaying the salary this month, in view of Deepavali celebrations.

On learning about the strike, the officials disbursed the salary around 12.30 PM, police said.
